A Mother and Son start collecting!
Pocket Money started pretty simply - a mum (Amy) and son (Willon) getting completely pulled into the world of Pokémon cards together. What began as hunting for a few cool cards quickly turned into pack openings, learning card values, meeting collectors, trading at local markets, and discovering how huge (and sometimes confusing) the hobby can be.
We realised there was room for something a bit different in New Zealand. A place that felt safe, welcoming, and community-focused, especially for younger collectors and parents trying to navigate the hobby for the first time. The Pokémon world can be amazing, but it can also feel a little overwhelming or untrustworthy at times — so we wanted to create a space where people could buy, sell, trade, and chat with confidence.

Embracing nerdiness!
We love the nostalgia, the artwork, the thrill of pulling a chase card, and honestly just seeing people genuinely excited about their collections. Whether someone is buying their very first booster pack or hunting down a grail card they’ve wanted for years, we love being part of that journey.
Pocket Money is built around community first. We’re Auckland-based, collector-driven, and always happy to chat directly with people because at the end of the day, Pokémon is supposed to be fun.
"It can be a worrisome place out there in the collecting space so we hope to be able to instill some trust and community spirit!"
